PS21 Presents Five Exceptional Musical Performances: Klezmer, Classical, Blues and Gospel
[CHATHAM, NY] PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century presents an exceptional lineup of music performances in a variety of musical traditions this July. The season kicks off on Saturday, July 15 with PS21’s Opening Night Celebration featuring Alicia Svigals’ Klezmer Fiddle Express. Classical music is next. Lincoln Mayorga performs Chopin and Candlelight and pianist Simone Dinnerstein performs the Goldberg Variations for The Twelfth Annual Paul Grunberg Memorial Bach Concert. Rounding out the program will be Rory Block’s Gospel & Blues Fest Weekend, featuring The Campbell Brothers, the Sisters of Slide: Rory Block and Cindy Cashdollar, and a Gospel Choir Fest.

Celebrate the opening of PS21’s 12th Season under the Tent with this joyful performance by the world’s leading Klezmer fiddler Alicia Svigals, accordionist Lauren Brody, and double bassist Brian Glassman. Svigals is a founder of the Grammy-winning Klezmatics and has written for Itzhak Perlman, the Kronos Quartet, and playwright Tony Kushner among others. $35/$30 members/$18 students (school ID required for college students)
Lincoln Mayorga: Chopin and Candlelight

A musical and dramatic presentation. Brilliant pianist, arranger, producer, and composer Lincoln Mayorga will perform Chopin’s Twenty-six Preludes, illuminated by the correspondence and diaries of the composer and his lover, George Sand. Actors Nancy Rothman and Martin Anderson read Chopin and George Sand’s letters. Tickets are $30/$25 members/$18 students (school ID required for college students)
The Twelfth Annual Paul Grunberg Memorial Bach Concert: Simone Dinnerstein performs the Goldberg Variations

American pianist Simone Dinnerstein gained an international following with the remarkable success of her 2007 self-financed recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. It ranked No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Classical Chart and was named to several “Best of 2007” lists. Dinnerstein’s performance schedule has taken her around the world since her acclaimed New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall. $40/$35 members/$20 students (current school ID required for college students)

A Gospel Choir Fest

A gathering of four local gospel choirs is being hosted by Chatham’s own Payne AME Church Choir and Rory Block at ChurchLIVE. Gospel choirs from Shiloh Baptist Church, Hudson, St. Mark Chapel AME Church, Kingston, First Israel AME Church, Albany will share music of worship and celebration.
