Parsons Dance To Open the Chatham Dance Festival
[CHATHAM, NY] – PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century is thrilled to welcome back the internationally acclaimed contemporary American dance company Parsons Dance, Friday and Saturday, August 4 and 5 at 8:00 pm. These two evening performances will kick off the annual PS21 Chatham Dance Festival, which takes place throughout the month of August. In addition to the two concert-length performances, Parsons will offer dance workshops, open rehearsals, and a free afternoon program just for kids.
“Thanks to a special grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, Parsons Dance company will be in residence at PS21 this summer from July 10 through August 5,” said PS21 Board President Judy Grunberg. “During their time here, the company will use the PS21 facilities to create new work by David Parsons and a Guest Choreographer. They will also provide Open Rehearsals and dance workshops for the local community. The residency culminates in two evening performances which will include new work. Parsons continues to be a core feature of our summer programming.”
Open rehearsals and performances will take place under the tent at PS21 at 2980 Route 66 in the town of Chatham. The renowned Parsons Dance Company is in residence at PS21 for four weeks creating new work. The Open Rehearsal allows audiences to get an inside look at the creative process of one of America’s great dance companies. Free admission.
Just for Fun: Parsons Dance Friday, August 4, 1:00 p.m.
For the first time in their 12 years performing at PS21, this internationally renowned dance company performs a special program just for kids! The company dancers will get audience members up on stage learning some of the unique fun Parsons dance moves. Free admission.
