Exciting New Theater for PS21!

Dear Audience,

Over the past 12 years PS21 has earned a reputation for presenting dynamic programs of contemporary dance, classical and roots music, and theater. After 12 years in our tented temporary venue PS21 has spent two year constructing a state of the art theater to house the growing organization.

PS21 is delighted to announce the opening our new state-of-the-art theater in 2018. The black box theater opens April 14 and the pavilion theater opens June 30.

Visitors who have received “preview tours” of PS21’s new theater are awed by the ambitious scope of the facility never having envisioned such an extraordinary leap from a tent to a fully equipped professional theater.  PS21’s theater is unique in Columbia County and will be transformative for Chatham.  With its elegant flexible design and state of the art sound and lighting equipment, the theater will offer many opportunities for community involvement and for creating ambitious, varied performing arts programming. The black box theater will host performances of new plays, puppetry, dance, multi-media, and chamber music as well as community workshops for kids and adults.  In the summer, the east wall of the black box theater will slide open and the black box will transform into the proscenium stage for the 300-seat open-air pavilion theater in which we will present music and the August Chatham Dance Festival. In the fall the proscenium doors will close and we will return to the black box mode.

Sincerely, for the Board and Staff of PS21, Inc.
Judy Grunberg
