Gamelan in the Hudson Valley
On the afternoon of August 4th we welcomed 20-piece ensemble Gamelan Yowana Sari to the Pavilion stage for a performance of traditional & contemporary Balinese music and dance. The family-friendly afternoon included traditional gamelan works alongside contemporary compositions from composers Michael Gordon, Dewa Alit, Kyle Miller and Evan Ziporyn. The performance included remarks on the the history of the orchestra and the music, interspersed throughout the dynamic pieces. And after the concert, attendees were welcomed to the stage to try out the instruments, which the children in attendance particularly enjoyed!
