2024 Season Launch Party

PS21 kicks off the 2024 season with a sold out performance

On Friday, May 17th, the PS21 family kicked off the 2024 season in style. 175 PS21 Members gathered on the terrace at 6pm, rekindling friendships from seasons past and making new ones over bento boxes, wine, and good cheer. PS21’s Executive & Artistic Director Elena Siyanko, Board Co-President Alice Kocis, and Development Manager Zack Levine gave a season preview, and the energy on the terrace was electric.

At 8pm, 125 more attendees filed in, and the first half of the double-bill dance performance from Japan began: all-women ensemble MWMW launched into their dramatic, hip hop dance performance bursting with technique and flair, over equal parts silence and energetic music. After a brief intermission, ballerina Hana Sakai gracefully performed the classic The Dying Swan. Immediately after, she began wobbling, stumbling, and explaining — via supertitle — in hilarious fashion why she had to die: an overtly self-aware, ironic, half-hour swan ramble, delving into the dark environmental ramifications of her death. It was a spectacular start to what promises to be a spectacular 2024 season.
