Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted is a wildly entertaining and unconventional documentary about convention-defying singer, songwriter and record producer Jerry Williams, aka Swamp Dogg. One of the great cult figures of 20th Century American music, Williams’ singular career has shaped the history of soul, country, hip-hop and a dozen other genres.
In Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted, the octogenarian artist and his “bachelor pad of aging musicians,” including the charming Guitar Shorty and the quirky Moogstar, navigate the tumultuous music industry, transform their home into an artistic playground and invite fellow musicians like John Prine and Jenny Lewis to play in their musical sandbox… while their pool gets painted. Bursting with infectious personality and stoner energy, Swamp Dogg Gets His Pool Painted is a music doc like no other.
Curated by filmmaker Mirissa Neff (This is National Wake) in conjunction with PS21, the ScreenSound series showcases arthouse music films. Each event opens with a dj set featuring music inspired by that night’s film.
