Compagnie Basinga
Cie Basinga is a French company gathered around the art of high-wire walking. Through research, teaching, sharing and through the production of high-quality participative shows, Basinga seeks to develop, expand, transmit and communicate this art which, better than any other, illustrates how our greatness is based on our weaknesses and our ability to combine them. What brings us together, makes us stronger.
Co-Artistic Directors, Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga and Jan Naets will be in residence at PS21 throughout the week leading up to their US premiere and four performances, offering free tightrope walking workshops from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28.
As part of their PS21 residency, we are thrilled to be offering a week of free tightrope walking community workshops, led by Tatiana-Mosio Bongonga and members of Compagnie Basinga (France). Join us in the apple orchard on the evenings of August 25-28 for participatory demonstrations that will introduce you to this unique and thrilling art!
Learning to walk on a rope involves understanding four fundamental concepts: the search for balance and the zero point; the balance with the pole; the void; and the notion of crossing (starting from point A to reach point B). It’s about trust and moving forward, come what may. In this way, tightrope walking is a beautiful metaphor for life.
These workshops are free and open to the public, ages 8+. Feel free to come and go throughout the two hours, and come for one evening demonstration—or all of them!
