Xin Ying
Works & Process Residency

Xin Ying is a dancer, choreographer, mother, and interdisciplinary artist exploring the intersection of movement, technology, and digital legacy. She is Dean of the Dance College at Sichuan University of Culture and Arts and a former Dance Magazine cover star.
A principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company since 2011, Xin has performed many of Graham’s most iconic roles, including Herodiade, Chronicle, Cave of the Heart, and The Chosen One in Rite of Spring, which The New York Times called “transcendent and heroic.”
Beyond performance, Xin is a boundary-pushing creator. She blends AI, generative media, and archival research to reimagine how dance lives in the present. Her choreographic commissions include Co.Lab Dance, Ballet Arkansas, Art Bath, and 92NY. She has collaborated with choreographers Nacho Duato, Annie-B Parson, Hofesh Shechter, and assisted Graham Artistic Director Janet Eilber on new works, including The Feast with Long Beach Opera.
Xin is currently developing MarthaBot, a custom GPT trained on Graham’s writings and archival materials.
This residency is held in collaboration with Works & Process.
